What to check
- Hours on the meter
- Teeth and pockets — wear, cracks, missing bolts
- Cutter wheel — bent or chipped
- Engine — starts cold, no smoke, no leaks
- Hydraulics — hoses, fittings, leaks
- Tracks or tires — cuts, wear, stretch
- Frame — welds and cracks
- Remote or controls — every function works
- Safety guards and curtains in place
- Transport width — fits your trailer and gates
Papers to get
- Bill of sale
- Title or proof of ownership
- Lien release, if there was a loan
- UCC lien search (ask the lender how)
- Photo of serial / VIN plate
- Maintenance records
- Seller ID or business documents
- Listing link

Age, hours and condition
Low hours help. Good care helps too. A newer machine with records is often easier to fund than an old one with no past.
Write down the year, hours and serial number. Take clear photos.
Dealer or private seller
Dealer: Clear paperwork. Sometimes a short warranty. Price may be higher.
Private seller: Price may be lower. You must check ownership and liens yourself. Expect more steps.
